English as a Second Language
Diana Bee

The purpose of the ESL program is
to provide experiences that promote individual and social well being and
to provide equal educational access for students whose primary language is not English.

The goal of the ESL program is
to meet the communication, academic, and cultural needs of English language learners,
thereby assuring them equal access to high-quality learning experiences and standards.

ESL is an educational approach in which English language learners are placed in regular academic classrooms where they will receive appropriate modifications and services from an ESL professional.  The ESL professional focuses on teaching social communication, vocabulary and formal grammar.  Oral communication, reading and writing skills are emphasized.  The ESL teacher will collaborate with mainstream teachers on lesson plans and provide materials and resources to aide the progress of English language learners.
