Miss Alexis Gentry

I am so excited to begin this year.  I am looking forward to working with the great students at Tipp City High School.

This is the start of my 15th year in education and my seventh year at Tippecanoe High School.  I graduated high school from Vandalia Butler.  I have a bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Dayton and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Dayton.

The 2020-2021 school year is going to be a little different in the midst of a pandemic but I look forward to meeting my students and teaching them how to become better artists.  In my class I like to teach using the TAB or Teaching for Artistic Behavior theory.  I believe that helping students explore their creativity helps them grow in other subjects.  I am very passionate about teaching and promoting the arts.  I have been doing a lot of research on the concept of an open art room and will be using many of the strategies I have learned in this process.  I am looking forward to teaching our students artistic behaviors and creative thinking skills that will help them in their lives.

I just recently rescued dogs from Rescue Ohio.  Their names are Sammy and Sicily and they are brother and sister. I also have a 13 year old cat named Bella.  My interests are sports, cooking, music, art, traveling and reading. I love watching sports but I am passionate about hockey, football and baseball.  My favorite teams to root for are the University of Dayton Flyers, the Tennessee Volunteers, the Indianapolis Colts, the Cleveland Indians, the Minnesota Wild and the Detroit Red Wings. I love traveling to new places and I love exploring new places for their history and their art.

I currently work part time at the Dayton Art Institute as a workshop instructor.  I love working at the museum and being able to see all the wonderful art. Working at the museum helps me introduce students to some magnificent artists.

I am currently holding the position of RD elect for the Western Ohio Art Education Association.  Being an active member of the Art association allows me to gain valuable teaching information and learn new strategies to use in the classroom.

This year I am the Art Club advisor, Interact co-advisor, National Art Honor Society advisor, Art with a heart advisor, Heavy Metal Club advisor and I co-advise our Fashion Club.   I am excited to be able to help our students explore art and to help them discover and create great service projects for the community.
