Mr. Gerken

Introduction:

I would like to welcome everyone to Physical Education Class at Nevin Coppock Elementary. I am the  Physical Education teacher at Nevin Coppock this year. This is my 14th year of teaching, with the last 3 being in the Tipp City School District. Prio to Tipp City I spent 2 years in the Dayton Public District and the last 9 years have been in the Preble Shawnee District. I have taught everything from Kindergarten to High School. I am excited to be here at Nevin Coppock Elementary and I look forward to doing great things with your child.

About Me:

I am originally from Napoleon Ohio, a town in Northwest Ohio, very similar to Tipp City. Upon graduating High School in 1998 I choose to attend the University of Toledo where I earned a Bachelor of Education with a concentration in Physical Education. After graduating with my Bachelors degree I was offered a Graduate Assistant Position at the University's Student Recreation Center and so I furthered my education and graduated in 2005 with a Masters Degree in Recreation Administration. As previously stated, prior to coming to Tipp City, I taught for 2 years in Dayton Public Schools and 9 years in the Preble Shawnee District. I currently reside in Vandalia where I live with my daughter Mallory, who is 11, and my son Landon who is 7.

Interests

Along with teaching students, I also have a passion for coaching kids as well. I have coached Basketball for the past 13 years. I have coached at the Junior High and High School Level and have coached both Boys and Girls teams. My experience consists of Boys Junior High for 2 years, Girls Junior Varisty for 4 years, Head Coach for 2 years and the past 5 years I have been a Varsity Assistant Coach. Three of those years were spent at Milton Union and the last 2 have been here at Tippecanoe High School. I am excited to continue coaching here at Tippecanoe.

GO RED DEVILS!

In my spare time when I'm not teaching or coaching I love running, playing golf or watching my Michigan Wolverines play. GO BLUE!!
