Ms. Theresa Thinnes

Welcome! This is my first year as a teacher for Tipp City Exempted Village Schools. It is wonerful to be here. Being a teacher is definitely a calling. Decades ago, I decided to become a teacher after my children were grown and that time is now! After being a journalist, public awareness specialist, recylicing coordinator, and operating my own portrait photography business for 14 years, I earned my Master's in Education from Anitoch University Midwest in 2010. Since then, I've spent four yeas teaching in the Dayton area and one year as a teacher in Washington where three of our five adult children live. As of June 30th, our new baby granddaughter, Addyson, lives in the Northwest, too.

Ohio first became home at the age of eight when my father was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. We lived in seven states before he retired including California, Georgia, Maine, Alabama, and Florida. As a seventh grader, we moved to Lafayette, Indiana in Tippecanoe County where I graduated from high school. We lived very close to the TIppecanoe Rive and even shopped at the Tippecanoe Mall.

I initially majored in journalism at Indiana Unviersity and later studied fine art photography at Purdue before graduating from Wright State University and becoming an education writer for the Kettering Oakwood Times. It was this position that provided the opportunity to visit schools and classrooms around the Miami Valley. That's when I realized that a good teacher can truly create magic in a classroom by inspiring students to become excited about learning. That's my goal as an educator.

Feel free to contact me by email at tthinnes@tippcity.k12.oh.us, or by text, or phone at 937-767-9132. Since I teach six different classes each day and differentiate much of my instruction, the weekly lessons listed here will be broad. For more specific information, please view your child's classwork on Powe School.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful new school year!

 All the best, Theresa Thinnes
