HOMETOWN: Tipp City, Ohio
As a young child, we moved around to a few different places because of my Father's job. I was born in Portsmouth, Ohio and lived there till I was six years old. We then moved to Covington, Ohio, where I would attend school from 1983-1988. When I was entering the 7th grade, we moved to Tipp City, where I am a proud 1995 graduate of Tippecanoe High School. While attending Tippecanoe High School, I played football and baseball all four years, and basketball my freshmen and sophomore years.
I come from a family of seven, and all my brothers and sisters are graduates of Tippecanoe High School. Susie is a 1992 graduate and resides in Kentucky with her husband, Jason and two kids, Jordan and Leah. Mike is a 1993 graduate and resides in Georgia with his wife; Karen and three daughters, Anna, Allie, and Ashley. Andy is a 1998 graduate and resides in Tennessee with his wife; Katie and three kids, Lyla, Lane, Lorilei. Katie is a 2002 graduate and resides in Alabama with her husband; Greg and three kids, Melanie, Mitchell, Madelyn. My mother and father, Carol and Charlie Burgbacher, still reside here in Tipp City. My mother worked at Monroe Federal Savings and Loan and retired a few years back. My father was the Head Football Coach here at Tippecanoe High School from 1989-2014. He retired from teaching in 2013, but continues to coach today. He retired after the 2014 football season from Tippecanoe and joined my staff at Troy High School as the Defensive Coordinator. He spent my four years at Troy with me and then has come back home as well with me and will be our Defensive Coordinator here at Tippecanoe.
My wife Nicole and I have been married for 18 years. My wife is an Physician Assistant and works with Dr. Matthew Heckler. We have two kids and two dogs. Braden will be in 8th grade this year at TMS, he plays football and baseball. Julia will be in 5th grade and attending LT Ball Intermediate School. Julia is active in cheerleading, soccer, tumbling, gymnastics, and stagecrafters. Our two dogs, Boomer and Irish, are just like our kids. Boomer is named after one of my favorite football players of all time, Boomer Esiason. Irish is named after our favorite college football team, The University of Notre Dame.
I attended Marietta College from 1995-1999. I played baseball for a nationally ranked team, making the College World Series twice. I was one of our captain's of our team in 1999. My fifth year of school presented an opportunity to return to the football field and I played outside linebacker, punt returner, and kickoff returner for the Marietta College Pioneers. I had a great experience at Marietta and still make it back there and it feels like I never left. This is where I met my wife and we share many great memories of Marietta. I graduated in 1999 with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and minor in Management. I immediately began working in the management training program with ABF Freight Systems in West Chester, Ohio. I then was hired full-time in July of 2000 as an Operations Supervisor. I stayed with ABF Freight until July of 2004 when I made my next adventure in life.
Upon retiring from ABF, I had made the commitment to go back to school to obtain my teaching certification from Georgetown College in Kentucky. I attended Georgetown from September of 2004, till May of 2006. I obtained my licensure to teach along with a Masters Degree in Special Education. Besides marrying my wife, this was the best decision I have ever made. Growing up as a son of a teacher and football coach, I always wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps.
From 2006-2008 I had my first teaching job within the Newton Local School District. While there I taught 5th and 6th grade Special Education. I also coached football and basketball at Tipp, and baseball at Newton. In 2009, I had my first opportunity to be a Head Football Coach up at Fort Loramie, Ohio. I was at Fort Loramie from 2009-2014, teaching JH Special Education, coaching track for a few years, along with being the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. In 2015, I accepted the Head Football Coaching position at Troy High School. I've spent the last four years at Troy as a Special Education instructor.
In January of 2019, the Head Football Coaching position opened here at Tippecanoe and was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. This is home and I have loved every minute of being here. I will be teaching at both the Middle School and High School. I will teach Special Education and be at the Middle School the first four periods of the day, then be at the High School in the afternoon.
