The Ohio Academy of Science

Twelve students from Tippecanoe High School, Tippecanoe Middle School, and L.T. Ball Intermediate School earned a Superior rating at the Ohio Academy of Science Upper Miami Valley District Science Day. They now advance to State Science Day in April.

THS student Sadhil also earned the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Award, BASF Award for Best Presentation of Data., and Award for Energy. L.T. Ball students Hadassah Morrison and Natalie Pierson earned the Award for Animal Science Award. L.T. Ball student Claire Sutton earned the BASF Creating Chemistry Award.

THS students Cameron Davis and Sorayah Channel, and L.T. Ball students Harper  Bathgate, Meredith Borger. Evan Folkerth, Evan Moehl, Nathan Riffell, and Everett Schmidt earned an Excellent rating.                                              

More than one hundred students from Miami, Darke, Shelby, and Champaign Counties competed in the event. Students exhibited projects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They worked on independent research from September through February.

The Science Day (Fair) program has been in Ohio since 1949. Students who complete and present a science or engineering project at a local science fair in their school or a county event may qualify to compete at the District level. 

This was the 8th year for the event at Edison State Community College. Organizers included area educators, STEM professionals, and business representatives. About $7,500 was distributed in awards provided by area sponsors, including many businesses and individuals interested in supporting STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
